Spencer Parsons, founder of Parsons Lures, has a fishing journey that goes back as far as he can remember. It all started with his mom taking him to the water, where she’d bait his hook with cheese or bread—since worms were out of the question for her! Spencer’s first catch, a sunfish, lit the spark. With a father in the Navy, fishing became their treasured time together whenever he was home, and when he was at sea, his mom continued the tradition.
Growing up, Spencer’s love for fishing only deepened. He would visit Conroy’s in Watervliet with his dad, mesmerized by the tanks of bait and endless shelves of tackle. “It was like a toy store to me,” he recalls. While his dad was a live bait fisherman, Spencer grew into the world of lures, sparking countless conversations about what it might be like to make their own. Though that dream was put on hold for a while, the passion stayed.
After his father’s passing, fishing lost some of its joy for Spencer, but as he spent time with his son, he felt the pull to pass down this timeless tradition. On his first cast after years away, he caught a brook trout and was instantly reminded of why he loved it. With each trip to the water with his son, Spencer began to revisit the dream of making his own lures.
At 40, he finally decided it was time to turn that vision into reality. But making quality lures didn’t come easily—there were plenty of trials and errors. Paints would run, finishes would gum up, and each mistake taught him something new. Through sheer persistence, he honed his craft, and in time, his spoons started catching fish—something he had always loved about these timeless, versatile lures. The lure’s flash, its ability to mimic a bait fish, and its simplicity drew him in.
Seeing others catch fish with Parsons Lures brings Spencer deep joy and a sense of connection to his dad, who instilled in him both his love for fishing and the Parsons name. Every lure he makes is a tribute to his father, a piece of him that lives on in each cast and every catch.
About Our Logo
Our logo might look like a simple design, but it holds much more meaning than you’d expect. Spencer created it in a quick moment after over a year of trying to find the right design. He took a dime out of his pocket, traced a circle, and placed our name across the top. The central shape, meant to resemble a treble hook, can also be seen as an anchor—a subtle nod to his father's time in the Navy and the anchor tattoo he proudly wore.
In a touching coincidence, Spencer later realized that the logo unintentionally includes his father's initials, "JWP." It’s as if his father’s spirit became a part of Parsons Lures, bringing everything full circle. This logo now serves as a tribute, combining fishing and family in a way that’s as unique and meaningful as the lures we create.
